What controller should I buy?

YogaTimer works with any Bluetooth device that sends standard keyboard commands — you don't need a specialised yoga remote. Here's how to choose the right one.

How it works

YogaTimer listens for arrow-key style signals

Any Bluetooth device that acts like a keyboard and sends these keys will work:

Right Arrow / Page Down

→ Next pose

Left Arrow / Page Up

→ Previous pose

Up Arrow

→ Go to sequence start

Down Arrow

→ Go to sequence end

4 steps to a working remote

  1. 1Slide the mode switch to "K" (Keyboard mode).
  2. 2Hold Start for 3 seconds to enter pairing mode.
  3. 3On your phone/tablet, open Bluetooth settings and pair "8BitDo Zero 2 gp".
  4. 4Come back to the Bluetooth Guide and test the buttons.

What won't work

Save your money — these Bluetooth devices don't send the right signals:

Bluetooth speakers

They don't send keyboard commands.

AirPods / Bluetooth earbuds

Designed for audio only.

Game controllers in gamepad mode (Xbox, PS5)

These send gamepad signals. Only works if the controller has a "keyboard mode" switch (e.g. 8BitDo).

iPhone / Android phones

Phones cannot act as remotes for other devices.

Teacher tip

Set it up once, use it forever

Place your tablet or phone at the front of the room at eye level. Clip the 8BitDo Zero 2 to a lanyard or attach it to your yoga pants with a small carabiner. You'll never break your flow to touch the screen again — even in the middle of a large class.
